Why are some Whois records empty?

Depending on the registry that is responsible for the domain name you are interested in, you may receive different kinds of information using the Whois Lookup. The registry defines which records will be kept in the Whois database. Thus, it may happen that for some domain names no data or only a limited amount of information can be displayed. Furthermore, some domain owners use private domain registration where the personal data is kept confidential, hence these information cannot be accessed using the Whois Lookup.
